Its easy to say you should reach out to your suppliers and collaborate to drive innovation, improve quality, etc.  However, if the relationship started by you bidding them aggressively, selecting them for being the lowest cost provider and then negotiating out clauses, why would the supplier really help you innovate?  And what are the odds that that supplier is even interested or capable of collaborating?  Building trust is key.  So is selecting the right supplier in the first place.  And that starts during the sourcing process.  But this requires a change in attitude in most companies.

  • How do you create the win-win scenario?
  • How do you do so while still meeting cost objectives?
  • What discovery practices help find the right suppliers?

Got Mobile?

Why yes we do! You saw some of this at aribalive. See how Ariba's mobile solutions are helping companies like #Anglo_American collaborate with their global supply chains even in the most remote regions of the world [video]: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78DrkRhiJ34

SAP is a mission-critical system designed to help improve efficiencies and access to information within your enterprise. However, its just not designed to enable effective collaboration beyond the 4 walls of your organization, thereby limiting its potential.  You’ve already invested a significant amount of money and resources, so how can you unlock more value from SAP without investing more CapEx and time?  Specifically,

How do you extend your SAP system to effectively collaborate with your suppliers?

How can you improve user adoption?

How can you improve spend capture through your SAP system?

At Ariba LIVE in Barcelona, Valeris Villard & Najib Zouggar from Air Liquide will discuss how they are doing this and more.

What approaches and technology are you using?  Join your peers at Ariba LIVE to share your best practices, or share your ideas with the community right here.

Great story of how mobility, innovation and the networked economy is helping small businesses in developing nations. Thanks to Anglo American's Susan Lasecki-Corio for sharing it in this interview after her Ariba LIVE keynote.

Kholo Mabilo's story of how she's built her company, which provides VIP toilets in South African mines, inspired everyone at Ariba LIVE 2012 - Las Vegas today. The Networked Economy is truly changing lives.

Once again, we're using the Ariba Exchange community to share the Ariba LIVE experience beyond the 4 walls here at Caesars Palace. Watch the livestream from the mainstage Wednesday and Thursday, check out presentations from the breakout sessions, follow the #AribaLIVE twitter feed and watch interviews with speakers, industry gurus and your peers that we'll post throughout the event. It's all on the Ariba LIVE community page of Ariba Exchange. It's the 2nd (a distant 2nd of course) best thing to being at Ariba LIVE.

Viva LIVE Vegas!

One week from today, Ariba LIVE 2012 will kick off at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas...and this year's LIVE promises to be the best yet, with an incredible number of customers sharing their Collaborative Commerce journeys and lessons learned both on main stage and in breakout sessions throughout the conference.

The value for Finance and Payables focused attendees is no exception, with a large contingent of finance professionals attending Ariba LIVE to share their wisdom, learn from others and network with their peers in the Manage Cash track of breakout sessions.  And to ensure that you get the most out of your experience at Ariba LIVE and get the opportunity to connect specifically with your finance focused peers, we are inviting you to a special Finance and Manage Cash breakfast on Wednesday morning at 7:30 where we will give you a sneak peek into what's coming in the Manage Cash breakouts and a preview of an upcoming Working Capital and Supply Chain Finance whitepaper being produced by Accenture and Ariba.

So, please come join your colleagues to connect over breakfast and start your conference right.  We hope to see you there!

The Ariba Analytics Center (AAC)offers strategic analytics spanning the entire customer lifecycle; all the way from research to scoping to evaluation to planning to adoption and value realization. Analytics is a key success factor in a spend management transformation program. Our analytics are a methodical, well proven, and tested way to scope, justify and execute a spend management transformation program. We help prospects and customers in (a) identifying the right scope and opportunities for a spend management transformation project; (b) building internal justification for the above through a business case backed by benchmarks and experience; (c) preparing a detailed plan for success against established goals; and (d) executing against the plan to realize savings and goals on a continuous basis. We have a dedicated and experienced team of specialized analysts focused on spend management analytics, as we have conducted ~3000 diagnostics in the last 6 years at over 1000 clients. We also run the most comprehensive benchmarking program in spend management (600+ customers on buy side and 2500+ on sell side covering all spend management solutions with over $400B spend). We have an extensive database of best practices and savings benchmarks; and automated and standardized processes for client engagement. Please note that all our programs and services are free of cost and are an investment that Ariba makes to ensure your success.

This year, similar to the last 3 years, we will be hosting our booth at Ariba LIVE Las Vegas from 10th April to 12th April in the Collaborative Commerce Pavilion. The booth will provide self-service tools that will help you find out more about yourself; allow you to sign up for our various analytic programs and services; provide access to rich content about our programs and services; as well as give you a chance to WIN an iPad/iPod in our raffle at the lunch area (on April 12th).The key themes for our booth this year will be:

  1. If you are a prospect, you can know where you are today in terms of spend management performance before you embark on your spend management journey. You can participate in a 10 minute discovery session at the end of which you will receive a performance scorecard along with a simple value statement. You can also sign up for post-discovery business case analytics which we will conduct in collaboration with you over the weeks following Ariba LIVE.
  2. If you are a customer of Ariba, you can know how your adoption of our solutions today fares vis-à-vis your peers. You can walk up to our monitors and upon clear authentication of your company credentials, we will instantly print a simple benchmarking report (sourcing, P2P and network) showing how your adoption fares vis-à-vis your peers. If you are not a current participant in our benchmarking programs, you can sign up for these programs at the booth upon which you will start receiving
benchmarking reports on a periodic basis.
  3. If you are a customer of Ariba, you can also know what you can do further to better leverage Ariba assets. You can walk up to our monitors and upon clear authentication of your company credentials, we will instantly print a whitespace value statement showing how much value you are getting from Ariba’s assets today and the "money left on the table". This will help you decide the future course of action (i.e. what gaps to fill). You can also sign up for our flight planning and tracking analytics to help close the gaps identified from above which we will conduct in collaboration with you over the weeks following Ariba LIVE.

Anyone who participates in one of our discovery sessions, prints a benchmarking/whitespace report, and/or signs up for our various long-term analytic programs and services will get an exquisite gift (a sandalwood keychain) and be allowed to participate in a raffle which will be drawn at lunch on April 12th. You can also take home datasheets as well as browse through the Ariba Analytics Center Portal which hosts rich content (presentations, recordings and sample outputs) on our programs and services. Five experts from the Ariba Analytics Center will be waiting to greet you at our booth, answer your queries and guide you on how you can harness the power of analytics to kick-start and guide your spend management journey. We look forward to seeing you soon.

You will leave with actionable insight into how your organization can streamline invoice processing and compliance (e.g., VAT/taxes), expand discount capture, and improve working capital.

  • The Walt Disney Corporation: Andre Hale, Director, Accounts Payable
  • TrustWeaver: Christiaan Van Der Valk, CEO

  • Their strategy to reach out to hundreds of suppliers in the first months and how they achieved that
  • How ONEOK utilized Ariba's Services to save hundreds of thousands of dollars even before their eInvoice go-live date!

While I'm no Billy Crystal, I do have the great honor of hosting Ariba LIVE, the business commerce world's equivalent of the Academy Awards. Like the Oscars, Ariba LIVE showcases the must-see stars of procurement and finance. It also gives attendees an entertaining and educational look into strategies for sourcing, procurement, invoicing, and working capital management success. And it offers a unique opportunity to network with your peers and forge new trading relationships.

This year, the headliners for Ariba LIVE Las Vegas read like a who's who of procurement, finance, and business. Some highlights from the General Session:

  • Anglo American Head of Supply Chain Strategy Susan Lasecki-Corio will showcase the mining giant's global supply chain transformation, including how supplier development and sustainable procurement practices are cornerstones of their success. Susan will be joined by a special guest that will bring home the far-reaching and positive impact of Anglo American's supply program.

  • Spotlight keynote Vivek Kundra, the first-ever United States Chief Information Officer (CIO), will provide a behind the scenes look at the country's IT infrastructure and how his Cloud-first strategy has sped technology deployment, increased adoption, and enhanced information sharing between federal agencies and the public -- all while saving taxpayers $3 billion in the process. Kundra will also provide his vision for the future of enterprise computing and how next-generation cloud- and network-based solutions are enhancing transparency and collaboration in the global economy.
  • Sodexo Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) Ann Oka and CIO Tony Tocco will tag team on how this food and facilities management leader has aligned procurement and IT to design  an innovative supply network vision that allows them to run one of industry's most efficient and fast-turn supply chains.
  • GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Director of Shared Financial Services Al Barbee will discuss how this global pharmaceutical and healthcare leader's e-invoicing initiative has increased efficiency, enhanced compliance and discount capture, and reduced costs and improved cash flow for both GSK and its suppliers.
  • Reed Elsevier CPO Leslie Campbell will reveal how the procurement and finance organizations at this Anglo-Dutch publishing stalwart dramatically increased spend under management, transformed  procurement performance, and drove widespread adoption across geographically dispersed businesses.
  • Dollar Tree Chief Operating Officer (COO) Gary Philbin will outline how the nation's leading single-price retailer has turned  operating a cost-effective and digitally connected global supply chain network into an engine for growth. Gary will also discuss how the retailer's multifaceted working capital management strategy has driven efficiency and cash flow benefits for both Dollar Tree and its suppliers.

And, just like at the Oscars, there will be a few surprises along the way. Not to mention a pretty spectacular opening number that you won't want to miss.

...And that's just the General Session.

There's also more than 80 procurement, finance, and IT execs presenting across a host of solution, industry, and issue-specific breakout sessions. As well as a host of networking sessions where you can rub elbows with luminaries, peers, and potential trading partners. (You can find details on both here.)

I look forward to seeing you at Ariba LIVE Las Vegas. I'm sure you'll enjoy the show!

Based on the feedback that you have passed along to us in years past, we are adding a few new finishing touches to LIVE this year. We want to recognize you as our customers and assist you in recognizing each other.

We will be acknowledging our "oldest" and "newest" customers, and possibly even our customer with the most spend under management or the most suppliers enabled. So, don't be surprised if your name is called from the main stage! We want to show our appreciation of your journey with Ariba.

Additionally, be sure to pick up some “flair” when you check-in at LIVE. We will have a number of different buttons and pins to choose from that will help you identify yourself and network with your peers. Here are just a few:

  • Ariba Platform (On-Premise or On Demand)
  • Ariba Solutions Owned (one for each module)
  • Industry
  • Years with Ariba

And if you have never attended a LIVE event before, we are hosting a first-time attendee orientation just prior to the opening reception on Tuesday evening. Here you will have a  chance to meet other first
-time attendees and discover ways to get the most out of your Ariba LIVE experience.

We really hope you will be able to join us at LIVE this year and enjoy our new conference updates!
