A recent National Federation of Retailers report lists Dollar Tree as #12 on its list of 100 fastest growing retailers.

For a discount retailer, lowering operational costs is vital to business operations. That's why Dollar Tree has focused on driving efficiency in its procure-to-pay operations. As part of that intitiative, the retailer has made e-invoicing and dynamic discounting key components.

"Discounts were a way for us to build our ROI going forward," said Gary Philbin, Dollar Tree chief operating officer, speaking earlier this year at Ariba Live.

To hear how Dollar Tree transformed its P2P operations, and made dynamic discounting a key component, you can view the Ariba Live 2012 mainstage presentation below.

Listen to what Sam Purches (English) (Principal e-Business Development Consultant, Computacenter) & Petra Burssens (German), (Head of Global eProcurement, Merck Millipore) said after their Ariba Live 2012 session in Barcelona entitled, "Best Practices in Trading Partner Collaboration" on how their companies work with their buyers to create true trading partner collaboration.

Small suppliers are often the most difficult group to manage, and the last to automate.

At UPS, using a third-party to enter invoice data was not a cost-effective approach. Instead, UPS is driving these suppliers to the Ariba Network as part of its e-invoicing initiative, and eliminating many invoice errors in the process.

Hear Mike Meiring, UPS supplier enablement project manager, discuss his supplier enablement effort and results at UPS from his smart invoicing initiative.

Why did GlaxoSmithKline proceed with a paperless invoice processing initiative? And what are the results? How is UPS automating invoicing for all suppliers? What benefits do Liberty Mutual suppliers get from e-invoicing? How is ONEOK leveraging e-invoicing to expand early payment discount capture?

How can your organization thrive and prosper even when economic conditions are less than favorable? Bring procurement and finance into alignment to improve management of working capital.

This is one of the key findings from a CFO Research Services survey of 263 senior finance executives in North America, Europe, and Asia. In its published report, Reaching New Heights: The Dividends of Collaboration between Finance and Procurement, CFO Research also found that:

  • Procurement has become more "stategic-minded" (73 percent of respondents)
  • The most significant change in the procurement function is technological achievements including electronic invoicing and the ability to match POs with invoices
  • Finance executives believe procurement can help optimize cash flow and capital, tailor discounts to specific customers and offer extended terms to suppliers
  • With this technology comes greater efficiency, allowing procurement to focus on understanding how its decisions, lead times, and inventory turns affect costs across the supply chain
  • E-commerce capabilities today offer competitive advantages. CFOs need to pay attention to e-commerce capabilities and ability to excel as a “networked enterprise
