Ariba LIVE is brimming with networking opportunities so that you can connect with new peers and prospects while also reconnecting with those people you have not spoken with lately.
Before heading to Munich, here are 7 helpful "to-dos" to prep for networking:
1. Polish up your online profile:
Update your LinkedIn, Xing or Viadeo profile with your latest accomplishments and a current, professional photo. Social Selling expert Gerry Moran says your LinkedIn profile should read like a “best-selling book.” Follow his helpful “blueprint” for a step-by-step guide. If you need help with a new profile picture, take advantage of the free photo sessions at Ariba LIVE on Tuesday and Wednesday.
2. Pack your business cards:
It's a good practice to pack more than you think you will need. No one wants to be “that person” who ran out and is resorting to scraps of paper or cocktail napkins.
You can build your personal agenda, search breakout sessions by industry, experience level and track. By locking down those details ahead of time, you’ll be freed up between sessions. You can also use the app to review attendees' profiles, send messages and meeting invitations and receive invitations from others. When you’re more relaxed, you’re more likely to smile.
4. Smile and talk to strangers:
(Who aren’t so strange, because you’ve already researched them using the app and LinkedIn.) You never know who you might spot and meet while walking to the next session or getting a refresher at the tea and coffee station.
If you think you might get tongue tied, practice a few rounds of questions in the comfort of your home or hotel room. Maybe even warm up with tongue twisters, like actors do before a performance. "Peter piper picked a peck…"
6. Pick a networking partner:
7. Get social:
Are you social media savvy and active on Twitter? Set a reminder to pick up a special “social” button featuring the little blue bird at the Ariba LIVE registration area, and pin it to your lanyard. It’s like a beacon for other social media savvy people who will gravitate to you to network and exchange “follows.” Don't forgot to follow the #AribaLIVE hashtag on Twitter to join the online conversation. (And be sure to follow Ariba on LinkedIn and Twitter.)
Bonus Tip! Ariba LIVE speaker Barbara Giamanco offers this suggestion to start networking before you arrive:
"I make a point to find out about the speakers in advance (LinkedIn,Twitter, their website) and connect with them to introduce myself, tell them why I’m looking forward to their session and to meeting them.(Follow them on Twitter.)"
