The following is a summary of the topics discussed during this session facilitated by Jason Brown (Director, Solutions Management).

  • Industry Trends
    • Many customers moving to RHEL
    • Most customers are on Oracle, with next biggest block on SQL Server
    • Some customers moving to virtualized environments, with a concentration in VMWare
      • Action -> Ariba to publish information on known issues with virtualization (as they are reported/resolved)

  • Mobility
    • Many customers interested in enabling Ariba outside of Ariba, whether through email approvals, web portals, or mobile apps
    • Several customers asked for email approval of Invoice Reconciliations, and Ariba noted that this is coming in a future 9r1 service pack
    • Action -> Customers interested in pursuing mobile apps for Ariba should reach out to their Account Manager or On-Premise contact to learn what is available and what is planned

  • Enhancements
    • Recently released enhancements include support for Russian, Hungarian, and Polish languages, Inspector updates, Delegation Scopes, Attachment Mount Points, and Database Certifications (DB2 9.7 and SQL Server 2008)
    • Prioritized future enhancements include email approval of invoice reconciliations, Office 2010 support, an update of the DocuSign interface, Oracle 11gR2, Weblogic 10mp3, Websphere 8 on RHEL, Turkish language support, and Mobile Safari

  • Platform Roadmap
    • No longer want to be reactive.  Goal is to share more information regarding roadmap and solicit mid-to-long term plans from customers to better plan the Ariba platform roadmap
    • Ariba implementing an 18 month deprecation policy.  When we support the next version of an Application Server, Operating System, or Database Server
      • The prior version will be deprecated after 18 months
      • This is a “rolling” 18-months in case there is an additional upgrade within the 18-month window
    • Removing HP-UX from supported list of Operating Systems
    • Two attendees wished that Ariba would consider ERP roadmaps when determining the Ariba roadmap
      • Could affect both the HP-UX decision and the VMWare outlook

  • Maintaining Environment Data
    • Updated environment data entry in connect.ariba.com
      • Action -> Request that customers either update this information directly, or work with your Ariba Account team (Consulting, Account Manager, On-Premise contact, etc.) to update that information
      • Action -> Jason Brown will distribute a forward-looking environment questionnaire to consolidate trends among On-Premise customers in terms of hardware, OS, app server, etc.  Please participate so that we may work together on this proactively rather than in reaction/escalation mode.
