Ariba Buyer 9r1 and Ariba Buyer 8.2.2: If you see a duplicate string in the Name and Description field for some catalog items when viewing the Requisition Print and Purchase Order (PO) Print pages, that results from choosing to add the optional ShortName field to the Catalog Information File (CIF) format manually, without supplying a value for that field for every catalog item. For catalog items with no ShortName specified in the CIF file, the value of the Name field equals the value of the Item Description field as viewed in the Buyer Catalog User Interface. This results in a duplicate string presented in the Name and Description field of the catalog item when viewing the Requisition Print and PO Print pages.

Under these circumstances, this reflects expected behavior in the default configuration for a catalog item. When you specify ShortName, the solution treats it as the Name of the item. When you do not specify ShortName, the solution treats Description as the Name of the item. The values supplied affect the appearance of the Requisition and PO Print pages accordingly. For example, for a catalog item of ACME ballpoint pen, the ShortName should resemble "ACME Blue Ballpoint Pen" and the Description should convey the detailed description of the item including the pen color, pen shape, information about the tip, etc.
