The use cases and benefits of online communities continue to expand. I attended a session at IACCM Americas (www.iaccm.com/americas) Day 3 where Corp Counsel for a High-Tech company discussed the value an internal online community has delivered to their legal team. Since such a large volume of knowledge is regional and resident within individuals in the legal function, their community has been invaluable in information sharing.
Adoption was a stated hurdle. The presenter observed to make it work, contributors must use the site and be incented to do so. Due to its success thus far, her legal group is now offering the community to a wider audience more company-wide. Finance, pricing, delivery, and others can most definitely benefit.
It sure beats endless searching through email folders that max out your mailbox storage space!
